Energy
How energy is generated for us all to use is at the core of Climate Change. The main way humans have been doing this for centuries is by burning wood, and for the last 300 years coal, gas and oil. Burning these fuels emits large amounts of gases that warm the atmosphere. If we continue to do this the Earth will become too hot for humans to live. The sane way to get energy for our needs is to generate it from renewable sources - sunlight, wind, and water.
This page has a few pieces of information and links to explore about various aspects of energy and links to explore. And will have more before too long.
ANNOUNCEMENT from Community Energy England on 3rd June 2026

WNCAN Comment: This action is to read the full information on Community Energy England's website about an opportunity to seek funding for (your?) local community energy projects. NB Grants are from £20,000 to £1 m!illion!

"After years of lobbying Ofgem, we’re delighted to announce that community energy organisations based in England, Scotland and Wales are now eligible to apply for funding as part of the Energy Redress Scheme.

Energy Saving Trust has been appointed by Ofgem to distribute payments from energy companies that may have breached rules. This amounts to tens of millions every year and is distributed in 3-4 rounds each year. Funds are available as grants to charities and community energy groups across England, Scotland and Wales to support energy-related projects that assist vulnerable energy consumers, drive innovation, and help reduce carbon emissions."

Power for People: Campaign for the Local Electricity Bill

WNCAN Comment: This action is to write to your MP about Power For People's Campaign. Some information from PfP is...

"The Problem: The potential for community renewable energy to benefit local economies is being blocked by unfair regulations and hugely disproportionate costs.
The Solution: We have drafted the Local Electricity Bill and have been campaigning for it to be made law. This would enable smaller renewable energy schemes – especially those owned and run by local community groups – to sell their power directly to local people.

Resilience and polite persistence, when engaging your MP, is key. MPs may take a while before acting on an issue, and many do only after hearing from several constituents more than once. You never know when your email might break through, especially when it is art of a steadily building movement like ours.
